WP0. Coordination, activity monitoring & management of the interdisciplinarity

Beyond the monitoring and coordination activities, this work package WP0 deals with the implementation of the dialogue between both scientific disciplines and stakeholders in order to have an interdisciplinary, multi-knowledge and inclusive approach aiming at the co-construction of solutions for a sustainable rubber production.

The objective of this WP0 is to organize the meetings for scientific exchanges and the dissemination of results and conclusions through different channels including a project website and publications as well as plain language notes for stakeholders including representatives of the commodity chains (rubber and intercrops), government, and NGOs. The Steering Committee and Advisory Committee are essential instruments entrusted with tasks related to the sustainability and participatory approach of the Rubis Project.

Activity 0.1 Coordination and activity monitoring

This project involves about 60 researchers and technicians from 3 organizations as well as Master and PhD students. The activities will be monitored through monthly meetings between the Coordination Committee (CC) and WP leaders, monthly WP scientific meetings, bi-annual Project Workshops involving all project scientists, and on-site visits. The CC will be in charge of disseminating the information (scientific reports, plain language reports, etc.) and will play a role as moderator for publications of scientific papers and website information. Two liaison officers will assist the CC to liaise between the three organizations and the various disciplines (cf. Activity 0.2).

Activity 0.2 Management of the interdisciplinary dialogue & collective intelligence catalysis

A challenge is that all scientists and stakeholders share the same global vision of the project. One essential factor will be the inclusiveness of different knowledges from different stakeholders in order to promote the emergence of new ideas and solutions not previously scheduled by researchers. In order to facilitate the interdisciplinary dialogue between researchers, and between researchers and other stakeholders, several channels of communication will be created.Besides, meetings, workshops and current research activities, the project website describing the activities and the outputs will be the main channel of communication within the project members and with the society. Plain language reports will be drafted in order to facilitate understanding between scientists from different disciplines, and between scientists and other stakeholders. The inclusive approach of this project calls for the establishment of an Advisory Committee composed of members of scientific organizations not involved in the project (CIFOR, ICRAF, EU-ASE universities), members of other teams from CIRAD, IRRI and UGM working on similar projects on other crops, representatives of stakeholders, representatives of the Agropolis Foundation and French Embassy. The Advisory Committee will be invited at the bi-annual Project Workshops as well as each project event (International Workshops). At the completion of the current project, the relationship established between the Project and Advisory Committee members may promote the link with stakeholders and especially Indonesian governmental agency for funding the on-farm trials and replanting program, and with other existing projects and other commodities, as well as promoting the regionalization of the project concept at least in SEA countries with the help of SEARCA, EU, governmental funds.
